Campionat Comarcal de la Marina Alta 2017

Sunday 26th March 2017 (British Mother’s Day) saw the Club de Karate Washinkai España celebrate their 2nd Comarcal Championship de Marina Alta held at the Palau Municipal D’Esport in Jávea. The clocks had gone forward an hour, making it feel like a very early start after the rigorous training schedule of the past few weeks.

The club competed in Kata both team and individual against other clubs in the province in front of a full house and was judged by National Referees through the FKCV (Valencian Federation of Karate). This year the competition introduced two new Veteran categories for ages 25+ and 45+ in addition to the Junior, Cadet and 16+ open.

During the break, Sensei Geovanny Sanchez Salazar 4th Dan led a team from the C.E.I.P. School in the Port who demonstrated Kata and karate techniques. Despite powerful opposition, the club performed well, ranking high on the medals tables in all categories. Highlights included a spectacular display of team Kata from the Dan grades and some remarkably well-defined karate from juniors who without exception demonstrated that the standard continues to remain very high across all five dojos of Washinkai España. The next Marina Alta Championship will be held in Benissa on the 27th May 2017. Details to be posted here soon along with the medals table.
