On Friday the 1st of March, the Washinkai España Karate Club set off for the first time to the Madrid Wado-Ryu National Championship. The transportation was paid for by The Town Hall of Jávea as the club was representing the whole of the Valencia Province.
The team from Xàbia was made up of 14 competitors: Erika Soriano, Alicia Fernandez, Jorge Meseguer, Aron Canovas, Martin Connelly, Ciara Connelly, Daniel Torres, Phoebe Ackland, Lara Duro, Alex Sanchez, Harol Hernández, Matías Maciel, Lucas Muñiz and Geovanny Sanchez.
Erika Soriano, Alicia Fernández, Lucas Muñiz (2), Harold Hernández. won 5 bronze.
Meanwhile, three of the team were placed 4th: Laura Duro, Geovanny Sánchez and two groups of the team were placed 5th in the category 12 to 14 years: Ciara Connelly, Harold Hernández and Alex Sánchez; Jorge Meseguer and Phoebe Ackland
This was the first time our club has taken part in the Spanish National championship. Our students have trained hard under the instruction and leadership of club president Sensei Geovanny Sanchez 4th Dan. Washinkai was welcomed with open arms. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to compete at a national level, meet other like-minded people and most importantly, have fun. After the competition, the club celebrated by taking a short tour of the sights of Madrid.
