Club Washinkai Karate España wins award for the largest club in Alicante Province for the 6th year running.
Last Thursday 23rd October 2014 Club Washinkai España held a demonstration of karate techniques at the Sports Centre Jávea to celebrate an award from the Spanish Karate Federation for being the largest karate club in the province of Alicante. The event was well attended and included Jávea Mayor, Jóse Chulvi who took part in the line up at the end. He was later given a copy of the certificate and stayed on to talk to some of the students about their work. The demonstration included Katas from students Lucaz Muniz, Oscar Morton as well as an example of defensive partner work by lead instructor Geovanny Sanchez Salazar. The students then gave an exhibition of advanced Kihon (punching and kicking techniques) before going on to receive the award.
It is the 6th year running that the club have been recognised for their achievements both by the Sports Council and the Karate Federation de España. Senior instructor Sarah Lakin 3rd Dan commenting on the success of the club said, “We are pleased with the award but the real winners are the students themselves who have contributed to the club’s huge success over the years!”
Instructor Geovanny Sanchez Salazar 3rd Dan said, “We are looking forward to taking the club to compete in the UK Nationals next year where they plan to build on the success of the previous year when the club won 14 gold medals and 12 silver whilst competing against some the top karate athletes in the UK.
